This is a question being asked by many people in these days. It is a question that expresses the uncertainty, worry, tension, anxiety, lack of control and discomfort that so many are feeling. It also expresses our need for direction and guidance as we contemplate where do we go from here.
In this message series we, as disciples and church, will tackle the question – what is next? – from the perspective of our faith.
Take some quiet time this week and answer Jesus' question of you: Who do they say that I am?
God’s Will
What is next? Next is God’s Will. He desires for us a life full of meaning and purpose. God’s will is that we all can become closer to Him and to one another and live in relationship. The Holy Spirit by renewal and discernment is the only one who can help us to know and do God’s Will.
In the desert of our uncertainty, in our exile from what we have known, Jesus Christ become the oasis through whom we receive the sustenance we need to live with the question of what is next. Nothing - not pandemic, not civil strife, not the political landscape, can separate us from God’s love poured on us through Christ by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Be mindful that what you eat and drink this week – what you take for sustenance – is a gift from God.
Presence
Just like Peter who starts to doubt and sinks, we can relate to being afraid in tumultuous times. We should not be afraid. We are called to trust Jesus and keep our focus on him. Even though it’s a challenge, it’s not impossible. He will not abandon us, especially during these difficult times. Don’t lose touch and trust in the Lord our God, even when we can’t find God, He will find us.
In times of distress or need, where have you felt God’s presence? Share that experience with someone!
MERCY
Jesus shows God’s unlimited love and mercy for everyone. We need to do the same. Mercy is one of the key virtues in our lives. Works of mercy are charitable actions by which we come to the aid of our neighbor, including forgiving and bearing wrongs patiently. Mercy is a foundation of peace, love, teamwork, and relationships. Mercy is an expression of love and it is the greatest attribute of it.
POPE FRANCIS SAYS, “A LITTLE BIT OF MERCY MAKES THE WORLD LESS COLD AND MORE JUST.” Make the world warmer this week by showing mercy.
